Home-Based Support Services

Childnet

For nearly 30 years, the Childnet program has built upon families’ existing strengths, allowing the participants to define their own goals and decisions. A Case Coordinator assists the family in developing a service plan. Family Support Workers and Counselors then guide families through instruction and demonstration of such skills as parenting, growth & development, discipline, nutrition & meal preparation, safety, home management, budgeting, and organizational skills. Families spend an average of six months in the program.

Services are provided inside the participants’ home, or at a mutually agreed-upon location.  Length of stay and frequency of visit are determined by the needs of each family.  Parent support groups are also held throughout the county.

All services are available in both English and Spanish.  Program office hours are:  9:00 am – 6:00 pm., Monday through Thursday, with limited evening and weekend appointments available.

Healthy Families

This home visiting/family support program is a collaboration between six community-based organizations that focuses on newperation PAR.

Services are delivered through trained Family Support Workers who provide information, guidance, and emotional and practical support directly to families in their homes. Services begin during pregnancy or at the birth of a baby and can last up to five years depending on the needs of the family.

The Healthy Families Pinellas Program currently employs more than 90 home visitors who provide services to approximately 2,000 children and families each year. Over the years, the program has incorporated several “specialist” positions to support the family (mental health counselor, registered nurse, father services coordinator, family development specialist, and housing, economic, and substance abuse specialists). While these “wrap-around” services provide holistic support to the family, it is the home visitor (Family Support Worker) who maintains the primary role of case manager.
